Does it work?

Whenever i try and do sit ups my neck and upper back start aching. Have been looking at buying a tummy exerciser/trimmer - the type with the headrests that are featured in the argos catalogue.

Is using them as effective as doing traditional sit ups?

Does it work?
Flacko says save your money.

work on the correct sit up techinque and you'll be fine.
Reply:This is probably cause by you putting your hands behind your neck and pulling. Try crossing your hands over your chest so you are pulling with yourself up with your abs and not pulling yourself up by the back of your neck. Also keep your abs tight for proper results.
Reply:Ignore the pricks. You get a lot of those here.

As for your actual question, I dunno about situp equipment, but there are many kinds of other ways to do them..For example, it is OK to keep your hands behind your head. If you're already doing that, and your nexk still hurts, you're arching your back too much. Don't sit up as high--sit up only as far as you can sit straighter without putting unhealthy strain on your neck.

there's also bicycle crunches, where you pedal your legs like a bike as you sit up. And leg lift crunshes, where you lift your legs either one at a time or at the same time as you sit up.

Do some internet searches for more ideas! ^_^

Good luck!
Reply:Don't waste your money. I have been taught when doing sit ups you hold your hands at the side of your ears. This means you're pulling up from your stomach, and not by pulling at your neck/head! Also when lifting up breathe out and when going back down breathe in. Only lift your body to a 45 degree angle and always do sit ups with your legs bent. Another tip is to focus at one point on the ceiling all the time. Keep your stomach muscles tight whilst doing them and you should feel it in all the right places. Not that I'm an expert or anything haha!!! Hope this helps.
Reply:if you are doing sit up right it shouldn't hurt, therfore you won't need equipment.

it's not how ar you come up it's the way you do. you should feel it in tummy not neck.
Reply:to be honest the best way is not to go on a diet as ive tried them all and diet pills and they dont work lol but just change your diet and go swimming 4-5 times a week for about an hour each time it tones your tummy and all your body up wonderful too ! i lost 2 stone since may its great and i eat loads too im just eating the right foods but instead of swimming try aqua arobics its great and really fun ! great question star for you and goodluck !
Reply:I have this problem and i have tried the ab roller, I didn't feel as though i was working my stomach though. I have started doing some Pilate's exercises that don't put a strain on your neck. There is no way i can explain them on here but why not see if there is a local class? Pilate's is really good for strengthening your muscles, its hard work but effective and easier on the neck and back x
Reply:My field is in fashion, as a result many people ask me how they can slim down. My answer is always the same: good diet and exercise. But I found this great product which I think helps a lot in the process. I recommend you check this website

http://www.greatpop.info , they have a free trial and you only pay 6.95$ shipping and handling. Good luck!
Reply:They are better because they tend to help you keep your neck straight, the tendancy with normal pull ups is to bend your head in towards your knees, thus putting strain on your neck. You will put some strain on your neck with the equipment but not as much because you are making a more natural arc
