please answer thanks

I have a indoor Aerial a with a booster built in..... if i connect it up to another booster will it help?
No, unfortunately it doesn't work that way.....If the signal is so weak that one amp can't amplify it enough, adding another amp won't increase the signal from the first amp.

The signal gets buried in the noise floor, and you can't pickup the signal without amplifying the noise.....

Best thing to do....get your ariel up up UP!!

Get it as high as you can get it,

Get an antenna that can capture signals 120 miles away (deep fringe antenna)

THEN add one amplifier to that antenna...

If you don't get signal with that...you don't live on earth...

Personally, I'd opt MORE for a Satellite...

BUT i would suggest a good 8-bay bowtie outdoor antenna like this.....

http://www.google.com/products?q=8+bay+b...
Reply:No........ If you do not have a strong signal received by your aerial, a booster will have no effect. A signal booster only compensates for loss of signal due to using a long, or poor quality cable, or having a faulty connection.
Reply:Peter K has said it in a nutshell !!!

Cheers Pete
Reply:No it would knock the otherone off automaticaly or probably blow it.
Reply:I played around with an unamplified indoor antenna and a powered cable amplifier, and it absolutely worked: I got clear pictures on the channels that were previously unwatchable, but one channel that was already coming in clearly became "overamped" and was starting to become distorted because the signal was being overdriven. I never tried my setup with two boosters because once I bought a powered antenna, I no longer needed the second amplifier.
Reply:No, it will boost the noise of the first booster. You must get a decent outdoors aerial.

Could i play wii on this tv???

i was wondering if these tvs could play my wii im pretty dumb when it comes to stuff like this

Could i play wii on this tv???
Yes it will work. but i would highly recommend the component cables (HD cables) but the composite cables (red,white and yellow) cables would work too
Reply:You need to connect it to a Video Player or DVD Player, the Red, White, and Yellow plugs go on the VCR or DVD Player on the back of it, next get something that plugs 3 things all at once, plug the TV, Game Station, and DVD/VCR player in it, then get ready to play, if still having problems, E-Mail me at milonettle@yahoo.com.
Reply:As long as it has the red, white, and yellow input things you're good.

hubby and i spent a small fortune on that memory and it takes to long for it to forget and ends up with a lump between us and i dont like it coz he keeps me warm at night and if i cant get t him because of the bed it's outta here
Reply:i bought a mattress and to be quite honest i could not see what all the fuss was about i gave it away my own bed mattress was more comfortable
Reply:Memory matresses and pillows are just blocks of foam. I dont see any advantage at all over a conventional mattress or pillow.

Which Compact Digital Camera is better? Kodak or Samsung? Please Help!?

I want to buy a new compact digital camera and have two in mind but can't decide between them. The Samsung, which can be found at http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/pa... has face detection but the Kodak has a larger ISO rating and more MP, this can be found at http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/pa... . Please help me! Any advice would be much appriciated!

Thank you!

Which Compact Digital Camera is better? Kodak or Samsung? Please Help!?
Canon - better than both

Look at the TX1 - very small combination HD widescreen stereo video camera and 7MP camera with 10X optical zoom

records on SD cards and has the best face recognition and anti jitter there is

Get on Ebay about 400
Reply:I have always had samsung cameras and have never had any problems with them, the one via that website was popular over Xmas as it had sold out everywhere. I was going to buy it but ended up buying a different samsung one.

My parents have a Kodak which is OK but I think the picture is better on the samsung.
Reply:Consumer Reports rates the Kodak higher. I would go with that. I have one and I like it a lot.
Reply:i recommend canon a720 because it has great options and its price is very affordable too
Reply:both are good

it all depends on what you like
Reply:I have a kodak easyshare and just love it, I have the ZD710 so its a little different but i find it to be a really good camera.

Which product is best for mothers?
Definitely quality. You need something that actually works for her hair instead of something that's OK for her hair but has more that comes with it.

Which pushchair should i buy (vote)?

Im still deciding which pushchair to buy, as its my first baby so im not sure which one to go for as i dont know a lot about them. here are the ones i like so far:

http://www.mothercare.com/gp/product/B00...

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/pa...

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/pa...

http://www.woolworths.co.uk/web/jsp/prod...

http://www.mamasandpapas.co.uk/product-1...

I like the maclaren one as it looks more convient for me but im not sure how secure it is for a newborn? thanks for all replies.

Which pushchair should i buy (vote)?
DEFINATLY the mamas and papas one (the last one) the Maclaren is nice but i use my one for my three-year-old, it's not suitable as a full time newborn buggy as it doesn't lie back completely!

i also don't like the car seat prams, babies shouldn't stay in a car seat for more than an hour (unless on a one-off long journey) as the position the baby is in isn't good for their soft, developing bones, they aren't in a flat position and if they are in the car seat in the car, then the car seat is put straight on the pram whilst shopping or whatever and back into the car like everyday it's so bad for them!!!!

Newborn babies should be lying down FLAT in a nice soft pram like the last one you have picked and if you save up a bit more money after your baby is born you can buy the maclaren aswell for nipping to the corner shop and stuff!!!!

good luck with your choice

p.s the last one will come with a seat for when your baby gets older, it will last for years xx also the middle three aren't very hard wearing, i've had one like that before and it didn't last long at all!!!

EDIT: it sounds like you've made your mind up to get the first one!!!
Reply:ive got a phil and ted

itd great

Reply:hello there, I have another option for you. What about an I'coo-Pico. I have one of these which I purchased with a rain cover, cosy toes, %26amp; change bag, for £135.00 on ebay. This price includes p%26amp;p. Its a brilliant pushchair with great wheels and brilliant suspention, the cosey toes is the best one that I've ever seen that comes with any pushchair. If you need to turn it into a travel system, then you can also buy the car seat that fits on the pushchair.

Just consider this as these are really good. Anyway its worth a look.. The one that I have is the I'coo Pico 4.
Reply:I had a Maclaren buggy for all four of my children, yes the same one, and if I had any problems or needed extras I just contacted them and they supplied it, often free of charge.
Reply:Hello!

I've got mine from Mamas %26amp; Papas, and got the same colour and design as the one in your picture, only in the Ultima. Its a 6 in 1 travel system, and came with a primo viaggio car seat, car seat base pushchair attachment, carry-cot (pram) attachment, stand (which ANY of the parts that go on so it can be used as a baby chair, moses basket, high chair, etc) pram chassis. I also got the rain covers, changing bag and foot muff as gifts from family and friends once I'd got the pram.

As it all folds flat, (not umbrella style though) taking it on the bus, train, etc won't be such a problem for when the other half has the car for work! The plus point of folding flat is, all you do is hit the button on the side like a trigger and the whole thing opens and locks in position ready on the spot for use.

Its also really light and easy to use/carry.

It's also good for babies from birth right up to four years.

The Pliko is a good one though, and is very sturdy and strong, as is the one I've just bought; (I looked at it before picking this one out!) I got this one in the end because it was part of whole set and was actually really good value for money.

In closing, the colour looks MUCH better in the flesh than it does in the pictures, and is good for either a baby girl or a baby boy. So, once this one is finished with it, I can put it away and use it for the next baby!
Reply:Mamas and Papas one definetley
Reply:I don't know anything about those that you have listed, but I will tell you a little about MY experience, and then tell you about my all time favorite stroller.

First off, I have four children. I have several strollers over the years too. For the first, I bought a full sized stroller, and while I loved it, it was sorta heavy. I also bought a small stroller but never really liked it much. It was hard to steer.

When I had my second, I bought a double stroller; talk about HEAVY! But it was used a lot, even after my third was born. I still use it today when we are at a fair or something where I know the littles might get tired. But I could not justify buying another small stroller at the time. Crazy, but true - lol!

When my fourth was born, a friend had a chicco london stroller and I totally fell in love with it and bought one for myself THAT DAY. It is light weight like an unbrella stroller, but it has features of a full sized stroller, like a reclining seat (which means you can use it for a newborn), a nice basket on the bottom, and great swivel wheels. I have had it for 2 years now and LOVE it and use it a lot. While I think they do not make it anymore, I think they have a replacement that is very similar and just as nice.

Here is the UK site for Chicco:

http://www.chicco.co.uk/

Good luck!
Reply:I have the Maclaren Techno Classic and from memory it is very similar to the XT. I've had my baby in it from birth and he has always been very secure.

The pram is highly manoeuvrable and I love it!!! I much prefer it to the other prams that other mum's have!

Hope that this helps!
Reply:I personally like the second or third one best. Get one you can use both for newborn and older, not just one for infants or one for older kids. It's a lot more convenient and cost effective.
Reply:I no what you mean about the secureness for a new born. I think that seeings as it is for a new born baby then i would go for the bottom one. I couldn't decide between that and the Disney one, but then when i realised it was for a new born baby i went for the bottom one. It's a good make, and I like the design!

Good luck with the baby xx
Reply:maclaren folds down completly flat for baby!,what are these people on with?..lol.anyway i have techno xt and the hood folds down even more than standard buggy/pram and i bought it for my baby son who is now 2 and it still looks great,its value for money and will last you a long time
Reply:hi. i like the 4th one. it looks nice and it doesnt look to heavy and it goes right up to age 3. So that would be my choice if i had just them to chose from. good luck.
Reply:I like them all except the Disney one.

If I were you I'd go for a travel system from birth and then when baby gets a bit older, change to something like the Maclaren. That's what I did. That obviousy depends on whether or not you drive or the baby will be going in cars. If you buy the Maclaren you'll have to buy a car seat separately.

Just a tip - try www.kiddicare.com. They're so much cheaper than the shops. Go to the shops and have a look at the buggy and make sure it's what you want, then order it from them and save some money.

Good luck.
Reply:i like the mamas and papas one i got one like that when my son was little and it was well good lasted ages i dont like that disney one your paying for the fact its diney but the model is quite cheap and not that hard wearing the others are ok but the first one isnt for a new born is it???? thats a stroller babys have to be about 3-6 mnths before they can use that type.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Reply:hi

i have a maclaren techno there are cosy and very good for using public transport. if you are going out in car it is easy to fold down. i would recommed it to anyone. they wipe clean easy aswell. i have a mamas and papas buggys and it is a lovely pram i just couldnt get on the bus with it and was hard going on trains. you just have to think about how u will be getting around, like if you go out by car or public transport. baby car seats arent that dear in mothercare i bought mine seperate than buying one of those big prams with them. hope ive helped.
Reply:Brittax, complete with carseat.

Chicco are good, but their customer support is poor.
Reply:get the mama's and papa's one. my sister has one and as its an umbrella fold it makes it easy for storage too! its what i'm going for for my second one!
Reply:i love the 3rd one but dont love the price!! i think the 2nd one has everything that u need and is a good price if ur only looking to use it until 6months. there is an ebay shop called online4baby and they have a really wide range of prams and pushchairs and all are considerably cheaper than the high street stores i have purchased a pushchair for my daughter on there and im expecting my 2nd and have seen a travel system i want to buy from there too so its worth a look!
Reply:i have bought the mamas and papas pilco p3 which is very similar to the one you like the p3 comes with carry cot car seat and pushchair and is very lightweight my little boy is four months now and he is in the pushchair part of it and very comfortable. i think if you were to go for number 1 then you should buy something to pad the baby out a bit but it is a nice pram.
Reply:Hi i have one exactly the same as the mamas and papas pilko but its made by silver cross its called a 3d pram system its amazing. I would definitely go for the Polk. You can use them as a pram, a travel system if you purchase the car seat and a forward facing light weight, umbrella folding pushchair. If looked after this could last you forever.
Reply:I have the mamas and papas one and i love it. They sell it in Next now though so it may become very popular. I also ave the first one. i bought it to go abroad. I wouldn't put a newborn in it though. i would wait till it is a few months old first. Sorry i do not like the winnie the pooh one
Reply:The first one and last one both look like they would work for a newborn right on up to 3 or 4 years old. They both fold umbrella style which I think is what your talking about when you say you want to get a smaller one later. Those two already fold up small. They also both say they can be used for a newborn. Good luck and congratulations.
Reply:i really like the mamas and papas one it just looks soo much better than the rest (don't mean to offend) but if it was my choice it would be that one

good luck

Someone give me feedback about this HD TV?

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/pa...

Wot do u think about the tv on the above link?

My second choice is this link,

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/pa...

If u had to choose between the two, which would u choose?

Someone give me feedback about this HD TV?
There's not much between the two really. If it was me I would opt for the one which gives you the greater specs.

However at that price you are compromising on build quality (ie they are shops own brand ultimately).

In an ideal world I would consider taking out the extra cover plan that Argos offer for peace of mind and balance that off against paying quite a bit more for a 'brand name' model.
Reply:If I actually wanted to enjoy my TV and movies, I wouldn't by either.

They are both cheap. Why are they cheap? Because the manufacturers use sub-standard, poor quality components, that's why. It's the only way to make and sell televisions that cheaply.

Cheap TVs like those will have a rotten picture, lousy sound, dodgy build quality and iffy reliability. You get what you pay for - save up a bit more and buy something decent.

Always remember, "Buy cheap, buy twice".
Reply:I prefer the first one only its out of stock so would go for the 2nd.There a good price.
Reply:buy the cheaper one, they are about the same

and do not pay 27% intrest

Which camera is better ?

Please dont just say 'nikons the best' - without looking at the link below!'

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/pa...

or

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/pa...

Which camera is the best? Which one is the best quality pictures , but which one has the best effects , which one is more prefferable for students (year 7) which one is reviewed better!? etc please tell me which I should get.

Which camera is better ?
While I would like to just say, "Nikon's the best," you have ruled that out. I went to see what some other people said and, although there are very few user reviews here, they seem to favor the Samsung.

See http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_... and click on "Read Owner Opinions." Be sure to read all of the comments, as there are not that many anyhow.

The Nikon L10 scored 3.64 out of 5.0 and the Samsung scored 4.43. Except that the sample size is so small, this would be a significant difference in favor of the Samsung.

If you can squeeze another $25-30 out of the budget, add the Canon Powershot A560 to your set. At every feature point, the Canon goes one better (or more) than the two cameras you are looking at.

More zoom. Higher ISO. Optical viewfinder. More meter patterns to choose from. More pixels. Faster lens. The flash might not be quite as powerful, though.

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_...
Reply:Well have fun with your new camera, whichever one you choose. It's the memories that matter the most. Report It

Reply:Go with the Nikon. The reason is because it has a higher ISO speed. Here are some features you want to look for in a camera. The camera with the better of these is the one you should get.

1. Optical zoom

When you have optical zoom, you can zoom in closer to the subject without loosing picture quality. The higher optical zoom, the better. When you use digital zoom, the number of megapixels goes down, which decreases the resolution.

2. Megapixels (MP)

A picture is made up of tiny little dots of light, called pixels. The more pixels you have, the better the resolution. Since Mega means multiplied by a million, then a 5 megapixel camera uses 5 million dots of light to make up a picture. The more pixels you have, the better the resolution.

3. ISO speed (shutter speed)

If you want a clear, non blurry picture then the faster the shutter opens and closes the clearer the picture will be. So a camera with ISO 800 has a faster speed than a camera with ISO 400.

That is the reason I said go with the Nikon-twice as fast shutter speed.

Stay positive.

Reply:I really like B its similar to wot my bf got me.

at the end of the day he still luv u and you both got each other (WOW thats soo corny) but gud luk anyways
Reply:I think the 2nd one is prettiest. Plus, I like that it's engraved inside the band.
Reply:The first definitely.

It's also the cheapest :)
Reply:Considering it's yellow gold and cubic zirconia, none. I tend to be a bit of a snob when it comes to jewelry. I feel that if my man can't afford even a small diamond then I'd rather he not get me a ring at all. I like quality over quantity. And a CZ is just...blech.

I'm going to laugh when I see 5 thumbs down on THIS post. Haha.
Reply:Are you looking for engagement rings or wedding bands? B and D are wedding bands. A and C are engagement rings. I like C best, but that's just me. I'm sure you'll be thrilled with whatever he decides on!
Reply:i luv C because it is not so big n flashy n besides it has "i luv u" on it.

B- eternity ring

Depends on if your getting engaged or if you are already married and want an eternity ring?

it was like my ph had a heart attack paralysed down the right side..then my battery would last less than 2-3 calls or 10-15 texts, you dint wont to know what happened if i got texts and a ph call or two... Nokia are tough sturdy long battery time and are a lot easier to move around in settings

Please help. Between these 2 TV's which would you chose? I have no idea which to get?
The Hitachi,

Note however that this TV is not HD, it is HD ready, that means it does not have a HD tuner built in. You will have to use a separate tuner, like a satellite receiver or a separate tuner (HD) and then the TV will display a HD picture. I also noted the TV has HDMI inputs which will give you an excellent picture if your receiver has HDMI outputs.

The Bush does not have built in HD tuner. nor does it have HDMI inputs.

The HDMI is not a big deal but it does eliminate using five cables.
Reply:I really hate to be negative, but, I wouldn't get either one. Hitachi has issues showing up already. The contrast ratio on both is not the best.

I never heard tell of the Bush one. The biggest drawback is the fact that they both are " HD Ready ", which means they have no built-in HD tuner, so you need something with an HD tuner in it, like an HD Cable box to get the HD signal. I would get A Sony LCD HDTV ( with built in HD tuner). It will cost a bit more, but it's worth it. Mine works perfectPlease don't get Plasma or DLP. Those were given up on by Sony a while ago now.
Reply:there is no hard choice here, and hitachi is a good well known brand, yes most people will say to buy the hitachi.
Reply:Between these two, the Hitachi 26" wide screen LCD, hands down!

Which exercise bike should I buy?

Which of the following two exercise bikes would be best for me to buy? I'm a student so I'm on a budget, but other suggestions from the argos website would be appreciated.

I think the first bike would be good in terms of not taking up much room, but if the second one would be much more beneficial to me I will get that one.

I'd really like some advice from people who know a lot about this sort of thing!

Foldable - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/pa...

Cheap - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/pa...

Which exercise bike should I buy?
I would buy the cheap one. The reason is because if you buy the cheap one now, you can eventually sell it later on down the road to buy the better one once you have saved up enough money. Why go broke? lol!
Reply:I will say that the 2 bike is good you can fold it for just 74 i think it was.

What colour Sofa should i get? my floor is blue my walls are cream/white?

Its a studio flat so very little space and i don't want the colours to look odd or clash? So with blue flooring and cream and white walls which one of these would look great? Thanks

My preference is chocolate, here are my other options:

a) Chocolate http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/pa...

b) Black http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/pa...

c) Ivory/cream http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/pa...

What colour Sofa should i get? my floor is blue my walls are cream/white?
I'd go with the chocolate. But definitely get some throw pillows with a brown/blue/cream print. Also pull blue into other areas of the room with pictures and accessories.

The black says "bachelor" and the cream would get lost against your walls.
Reply:Gray or Beige would be my choice.

Is it worth paying the extra £20? (See below)?

I am deciding between these two weight sets:

and

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/pa...

Is it worth paying the extra or are they the same but in a different colour?

Also I was looking at this:

Would it be worth investing in that set instead of the other two? Which of the three are the best buy? Thanks in advance for your answers.

Is it worth paying the extra £20? (See below)?
go for cast iron

crome is nice but dearer, for that £20 you could buy yourself another 20kg of cast iron weights from argos

aviod vinyl weights i made this mistake, becuase they are so much bulkier than cast iron you cant get as much weight on the bar. fine at first but as you move onto heavier lifts they will hamper your progress
Reply:£20 would get you quite a few bricks.
Reply:personally id go for http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/pa... There cheaper and there the same weight has your 1st choice. Ive got em as well and there not bad, Ive had em for 2years now and i use em at least 4-5 times a day.
Reply:everyone i know uses things like these for a few weeks and then gives up cos its hard to get motivated on your own.

Much better to join a gym
Reply:Depends on how strong you are. i personally think the first one would be ideal. the third answer is also a good product, even cheaper.

it depends if your really strong and could work up to 70kg's. like you said your in a gym so youll able to use them there, so go for the first one, or third person who answerd for price range.

Good luck

Reply:Very cute. I like the pushchair, but I would go with a pram top if you walk a lot to the shops or around the villages, etc. If you live in the city then the car seat that snaps on is worth it..especially if you use a car most of the time. Nice colours!

Good luck, I was in the same boat as you last year and now have a 3 month old handsome boy. :)

Do you know of any other baby toys that are good? (preferably from Argos too)Thanks

Baby toys from Argos?
I have the bouncy chair and the cot mobile. They are both good, but some babies dont like the vibration on the chair.
Reply:I had the bouncy chair but in different fabric and I returned mine for a refund as it says you can use it from newborn but I found the seat was too upright for my baby when he was born but he was only 4lb 5ozs so it may be ok for a bigger baby.

My son loves his swing

Reply:I don't know about the above toys but I have a Tippitoes bouncer, which my son loves!

He also loves his "Busy Ball Popper" - £20 from Argos.

i was looking in argos the other day and saw they're selling glow worms again, i remember them from when i was little! saved me from many a scared dark nights so i've got lilly one as well and she seems happy enuf just saering blankly at it for hours! its only £7.99 i think it was. also got her a kick toy, fisher price, same page as he glow worm (£14.99), its got a platform at the bottom for her to kick which makes noises, and then a sort of mobile thing for her to try n grab at.

dont kno if you hav a toys r us near you, but they do this fantastic rattle in there, winne the pooh or tigger, has buttons, sings songs, teachs letters, colours, numbers. lilly loves staring at the colours on it and harrison my nephew loves wiggling it so it caries on with the songs! its great and i can see it'll last ages (lillys 4 months and harrisons 16 months) so a great value for money toy (£7.99)

Java help please 2?

Which of the following keywords is used to declare a variable as a constant in a Java program?

a. void

b. constant

c. final

d. literal

e. static

Java help please 2?
i think that the question pretty much makes it clear............. if not, here is the answer for the less able computer programmers: FINAL
Reply:a. void - is the keyword used to specify that no value is expected in the specification of a method

void setSize (double inputSize);

b. constant - is not a keyword in Java

c. final - as others have indicated, this is answer. I tell my students to remember that the value is being set for the final (and only) time. I also happen to believe that this is a rotten keyword to use for a constant, but no one asked me.

d. literal - not a keyword in Java

e. static - used to specify that there is only one instance of this "thing". Usually, each time than an object is created from a class, an entirely separate and new set of "things" (variables, methods, etc.) are created. Except for the items marked "static". A variable marked static only exists in one place and is shared across all the instances of any objects created. Constants (keyword final) that are static only exist in one place and don't take up memory space in all the instances of objects that are created. Like most powerful tools, static is easily abused and can cause problems that are very difficult to solve.

Likely more than you wanted to know, I'm sure.

The relationship between current flow and voltage in a capacitor is...?

Choices I have are:

A. Dynamic

B. In Phase

C. Out of Phase

D. Static

An explanation would be great, thanks.

The relationship between current flow and voltage in a capacitor is...?
The answer is out of phase as the current is by 90deg "faster"
Reply:Current leads voltage in a capacitor. Current flows through a capacitor to build up a voltage across the cap. This makes them out of phase.
Reply:Both previous answers are correct but I want to add some imagery to this answer. Imagine two barrels connected by a thin tube at the bottom. On the tube there's a valve. The barrel on the left is full of water, the right barrel is empty.

Now open the valve, you have the full pressure of water rushing in to fill the right barrel, as the water levels reach 1/2 way this current of water through the thin tube becomes reduced until both are completely filled.

An empty capacitor will in theory suck current in at an infinite rate (but there is no such thing as a perfect capacitor hence we'll always have minimal series resistance etc.)

Phyics: Circular Motion #4?

A 50.0 kg child stands at the rim of a merry-go-round of radius 1.70 m, rotating with an angular speed of 2.70 rad/s.

(a) What is the child's centripetal acceleration?

_______ m/s2

(b) What is the minimum force between her feet and the floor of the merry-go-round that is required to keep her in the circular path?

________ N

(c) What minimum coefficient of static friction is required?

_________

Is the answer you found reasonable? In other words, is she likely to be able to stay on the merry-go-round?

Phyics: Circular Motion #4?
This is also fairly straightforward and is solved using the equation a= v^2/r. Part b is solved using F=ma, with the a from the previous question. Part c is found using F=mu(m)(g) where mu is the coefficient of friction. Please let me know if you need anymore help.

A merry go around makes one complete revolution in?

A merry go around makes one complete revolution in 7.74s. A 53.7kg child sits on the horizontal floor of t he merry-go-round 2.82m from the center. Gravity=9.8

a. find the horizontal force of friction that acts on the child. Answer in units of N

b. Find the horizontal force of friction that acts on the child. Answer in units of N

c. What minimum coefficient of static friction is neccessary to keep the child from slipping?

A merry go around makes one complete revolution in?
a and b are the same question.

Since Friction is the Fnet, and the Fnet is the centripetal force. Friction is the centripetal force

Ffriction=Fc

Fc= 4*pi^2*m*r / T^2

Fc= 4*pi^2*53.7kg*2.82m / (7.74s)2

Fc= 100N

since Fc is 100N then Friction is also 100N

Fnormal=Fweigh

Fweigh=mg

Fweigh= (53.7)(9.8)

Fweigh= 526.26N

Fnormal is also 526.26N

Friction=mu(Fnormal)

100N=mu(526.26N)

mu= .19

The centripetal acceleration?

A 50.0 kg child stands at the rim of a merry-go-round of radius 2.30 m, rotating with an angular speed of 3.35 rad/s.

(a) What is the child's centripetal acceleration?

m/s2

(b) What is the minimum force between her feet and the floor of the carousel that is required to keep her in the circular path?

N

(c) What minimum coefficient of static friction is required?

Is the answer you found reasonable? In other words, is she likely to stay on the merry-go-round?

yes

no

The centripetal acceleration?
The equations will be in your text book, but here they are:

(a) the centripetal acceleration is

a = r * w^2

where r is the radius, w is the angular speed

(b) F = m * a, use "a" calculated in part (a)

and m is the child's mass

(c) F = u * m * g

where

F is the force calculated in part (b)

u = coef. of static friction

g = acceleration due to gravity

Solve that equation for "u" to get your answer

A uniform ladder is 10 m long and is 200 N. the ladder leans against a vertical, frictionless at a point 8.0 m

A uniform ladder is 10 m long and is 200 N. the ladder leans against a vertical, frictionless at a point 8.0 m above the ground as shown in the figure. A horizontal force F is applied to the ladder at a point 2 m from the base of the ladder (as measured from the base of the ladder). (a) if F = 50 N, what is the force of the ground on the ladder, in terms of the Unit vectors shown? (b) if F = 150 N, what is the force of the ladder on the ground in unit vector form? (c) Suppose the coefficient of static friction between the ladder and the ground is 0.38; for what minimal value of F will the base of the ladder just start to move toward the wall?.

A uniform ladder is 10 m long and is 200 N. the ladder leans against a vertical, frictionless at a point 8.0 m
I will not provide you with a step-by-step solution to your problem because I strongly believe that is not going to benefit your learning. However, I would give you some advice as to how one may effectively approach a physics problem of this nature.

This particular problem is quite apparently an exercise dealing with concepts of statics. Statics problems are typically straightforward because nothing moves and everything is in a state of static equilibrium. All forces are in equilibrium and all moments generated by all forces about any point in the system are also in equilibrium.

You may like to follow these steps in your working:

(1) Draw a free body diagram (of the ladder). It is not necessary to draw the wall or the ground because our main focus is just the ladder, inclined so that it is as if you are looking at one of its sides.

(2) Add to your free body diagram All forces acting On the ladder. Be careful not to miss out any. In this problem, you should have these forces:

(a) the weight of the ladder, W, acting vertically downwards from the centre of the ladder,

(b) the normal force on the ladder by the wall, N1, acting at the top of the ladder normal to the wall surface,

(c) the normal force on the ladder by the ground, N2, acting at the base of the ladder normal to the ground surface,

(d) the frictional force on the ladder by the ground, F2, acting at the base of the ladder parallel to the ground surface,

(e) the horizontal force F acting at 2m from the base of the ladder.

(3) Identify the unknowns. In the first two parts of the problem, N1, N2 and F2 are unknown. In the last part of the problem, N1, N2 and F are unknown.

(4) Establish the equations to solve for the unknowns. Theoretically, 3 equations are needed to solve for 3 unknowns. Based on force and moment equilibrium, we sum forces horizontally and vertically, as well as moment about a selected point and equate them to zero.

Circular Motion Physics Problem.. NEED HELP!?

1) A car is traveling at 18.4 m/s on a straight horizontal highway. The wheels of the car have radii of 49.0 cm. If the car speeds up with an acceleration of 1.50 m/s2 for 4.80 s, find the number of revolutions of the wheels during this period.

2)A race car starts from rest on a circular track of radius 250 m. The car's speed increases at the constant rate of 0.360 m/s2. At the point where the magnitudes of the centripetal and tangential accelerations are equal, determine

a) the speed of the race car in (m/s)

b) the distance traveled in (m)

c) the elapsed time in (s)

3)A 50.0 kg child stands at the rim of a merry-go-round of radius 2.20 m,rotating with an angular speed of 2.70 rad/s.

a) What is the child's centripetal acceleration?

b) What is the minimum force between her feet and the floor of the merry-go-round that is required to keep her in the circular path(N)?

c) What minimum coefficient of static friction is required?

is she likely to be able to stay?

Circular Motion Physics Problem.. NEED HELP!?
1. The initial velocity is 18.4 m/s and the acceleration is 1.50 m/s/s. Therefore the distance travelled in 4.80 s is 18.4 m/s * 4.80 s + 1/2(1.50m/s/s)(4.80 s)^2 which comes out to 106 m. The circumference of the wheels is .980 m * pi = 3.08 m. To find the revolutions you divide the distance by the circumference 106m/3.08m to find 34.4 revolutions.

2.

a. The tangential acceleration is a constant .360 m/s/s therefore you merely need to solve .360 m/s/s = (v^2)/250.m. For this equation v = 9.49 m/s.

b. V^2 = 2a(D) where D is change in displacement. Solving for D we get (90m*m/s/s)/(2*1.5 m/s/s) = 30 m.

c. Time is equal to sqrt(2D/a) = sqrt(60/1.5) = 6.32 s.

3.

a. The equation for centripetal acceleration is (V^2)/r. V is 2.20 m * 2.70 rad/s. Thus the equation is simply (2.70 rad/s)^2*(2.20 m) = 16.0 m/s/s.

b. To go at that velocity with this radius she must have the specified centripetal acceleration, 16.0 m/s/s at every point. Therefore the force required is 16.0m/s/s * 50.0 kg = 800. N

c. The coefficient of friction is proportional to the normal force which is the opposite of the weight. Thus we are looking that 16.0 m/s/s * m = k*9.80m/s/s*m where m is mass and k is the coefficient of friction. The masses cancel leaving 16.0 m/s/s = k*9.80 m/s/s with k being equivalent to 1.63. So uhh, that's pretty high even for rubber, so I'd say no.

Helpl with friction plz µ µ?

A 10kg box rests ona ramp that is laying flat. The coefficient of static friction ( µs ) is 0.50, and the coefficient of kinetic friction ( µk) is 0.30.....

what is the force (Fp) necessary to keep the box sliding at a CONSTANT VELOCITY?

I'm not really sure how to work this problem...this is the only thing i could come up with, but I dont think its right...could check this plz?

∑Fy = Fn - Fg = 0 , therefore

Fn = Fg = mg = 10kg*9.8m/s2 = 98N

∑Fx = Fp - Ffk = 0, therefore

Fp = Ffk = µk(Fn) = 0.30 (98N) = 29.4N

The reason why I think there might be something wrong with this is b/c i calculated the max static friction (Ffs) to be 49N...Im really confused could someone plz help me?

Helpl with friction plz µ µ?
Hey, not to worry. You did this exactly correctly. The answer is indeed 29.4 N. You're just noticing that the force of kinetic friction is less than the force of static friction. That's typical, and not a red flag on your answer.

Computer Science Quesetion?

What is a static local variable in C? I'm supposed to write short essay answers in including tracing the output of code, or code writing.

Computer Science Quesetion?
A static local variable is a variable defined inside a function that does not get deallocated when the function ends (like normal, stack-allocated function local variables). Thus from one function call to the next it maintains the same value at the start of a function call that it had at the end of the previous function call.

It is allocated on the applications startup stack frame, the same way that static global variables are allocated. However, it does not have scope (visibility and accessibility) outside the function in which it is defined.

Here is a simple example:

--------------

void doSomething(int dumpFlag) {

static int callCount = 0;

callCount++;

/* do something here */

if (dumpFlag) {

printf("doSomething() has been called %d times.\n", callCount);

}

--------------

--------------

ASIDE TO Metaferia:

Your example demonstrates a static data member in a C++ class, not a static local variable in a C function.
Reply:class Request

{

private:

static int count;

string url;

public:

Request() { count++; }

string Url(string value) { url = value; return url; }

int Count() const { return count; }

};

int Request::count = 0;

Java problem?

The following method returns the position of the first occurrence of a given character in a given string. The position starts from 0 for the first character in the string. The method should return -1 if the character does not appear in the string. For example, the call indexOf('t',"iteration") would return 1, and the call indexOf('s',"iteration") would return -1. (You are not allowed to use the String indexOf method.)

______________________________________...

public static int indexOf(char c, String str)

{

// fill this in

}

Any help will be very appreciative.

Java problem?
No need to reinvent the wheel, because there is a function in the String class that provides this functionality, but with a different function prototype. The function is index called indexOf() and is overloaded to accept most input. If you need this for some school assignment, then just "jack" the code from the String class.
Reply:public static int indexOf(char c, String str) {

char[] chars = str.toCharArray();

for(int i=0;i%26lt;chars.length;i++) {

if(c == chars[i]) {

return i;

}

}

return -1;

}
Reply:get the length of the string

use a loop to check each character in the string against 'c'

if you found some mathces, return the count

if not return -1

use the Character class

//fill it in on your own

Ok Yahoo people....I own a Dell Inspiron 6000 and the thing won't boot up (the screen remains black). Tips?

I had originally called Dell to get help (and paid $40 to do so) and they said it might be static. I know the C drive is ok and the screen is fine. I just need the thing to completely boot up...sometimes when the screen comes up, it freezes at the Windows signon page. Then I have to turn it off again. Help!

Ok Yahoo people....I own a Dell Inspiron 6000 and the thing won't boot up (the screen remains black). Tips?
Boot sector virus? No. Not even close.

Before you do anything thing, if you have a USB drive (Memory stick, external hard drive) attached to your laptop remove it. Try starting it up. If that is not the case or it still doesn't boot, read on.

First, power up the laptop and hit F8 several times to bring up your startup options. Select Safe Mode. If you're able to boot into Windows, the problem is most likely software or operating system based.

If it still won't boot properly, the problem is most likely hardware based.

For software/OS, while in Safe Mode run a full virus scan and remover any programs or drivers that you have recently installed. Reboot and see if you can get into Windows. If you continually have problems your best solution would be a complete reformat of your hard drive. Hope you have backups.

For hardware, shut down the machine. Completely remove and then reseat the memory, one stick at a time if you have 2 DIMMs. Put one stick in DIMM slot 1, turn machine on. If it works, the other stick is a problem. (But also check the other stick as well.)

Other hardware based problem would be difficult for the average user to trouble shoot or rectify. Either send it back to Dell or find a local computer shop to take it too.
Reply:I have the same computer. Do you still have Dell warranty on it? That's what will save you. Call them.. 1-800-247-4618 or go on line www.support.dell.com

Good luck,

Svetlana
Reply:Try a different power supply. Or it could be the system board. If it is the system board, you should be able to get the data off of the hard drive, and then throw the laptop away. The RAM could also need to be re-seated.
Reply:It sounds like you may have a boot sector virus. If this is the case, download the latest BIOS drivers for your laptop. If that does not get you through, re-install the bios, and then re-install the operating system. That should do the trick, if not, you will have to record the post messages and find out if anything has failed.

PS3!! PS3!! Help ME sort out THIS ARGUMENT!?

My friend needs headphones(to talk etc) for his PS3,

Do they need to be USB?

I thought you could just connect via the TV

Whos right?

PS3!! PS3!! Help ME sort out THIS ARGUMENT!?
Hate to say it, but you are both wrong. It uses wireless bluetooth on most of the headsets that Sony recognizes will work. You do not want wires anyway... There are USB ones available, but they suck. If you have a bluetooth headset for your cell phone see if the PS3 will pick it up. Mine did!!

Missed the link... Nope. They need to work woith a PS2. If they work for a PS2 they will work woth the PS3, but try your cell phone one first.
Reply:You can use blue tooth headsets, which connect to the ps3, or you can use a usb headset which also connects to the ps3.

I wouldn't advise buying any on the site you selected.

For blue tooth go with Jabra or motorolla.

For usb go with logitech.
Reply:USB or bluetooth via ps3
Reply:any bluetooth headset will work on a ps3

one for you cell will do fine it will take one of the 7 controller ports. just turn it on and scan for device using the home menu.
Reply:you use blouthooth headsets, and no you dotn hook them to your tv
Reply:I use the Jabra BT250 I think, it's blutooth so it connects wirelessly to the PS3. You can, however, set your audio output to be your tv speakers rather then the earpiece.

Is it Posible to create an object with the contentof a variable as name?

like:

Public static void createNewObject(String c){

Object c = newObject();

MY compiler wouldn't let me do this because the variable c is already declared.

i have tried to do... Object c.toString() = new Object

Do I have to pay to ship bad product back to e-bay?

I got the c.d. player on Tuesdan and played c.d.s one night. The next day it made a few static sounds and the c.d. player wouldn't play. Shortly after, I attempted to play the radio and that would not come on either. The seller said I had to pay for all shipping and he would refund the purchase amount. His insinuation was that I broke it. He will use that as an excuse not to pay for shipping. What is the right thing to do?

Do I have to pay to ship bad product back to e-bay?
Did the seller offer a warranty? If it worked when you got it and then it broke, why is it his problem?

You said ... "His insinuation was that I broke it." ... did the seller actually say something to make you feel that way? Because asking you to pay for return postage is not insinuating anything. Remember, you didn't buy something FROM eBay, you purchased it from an independent seller. And most sellers are just regular people working out of their homes. And most are not getting rich, they may actually be just breaking even. It's tough to turn a profit on eBay

It sounds like you have yourself a great seller there, I wouldn't offer you any kind of refund for an item that worked when you got it and broke afterwards, IMHO.
Reply:it is ebay and paypal policy not to require shipping to be refunded and for the buyer to pay shipping to have an item sent back for whatever reason. If you were to file a claim through paypal, they would tell you to send the item back, and the seller would give you a refund, less the shipping. It's just how things are, so the seller won't be short that amount of money.
Reply:It all depends on that seller, what did it say on the page that you purchased the item from ? If the sellers saying that you have to pay to return it ebay will not fight him and you will have to if you choose to send it back. If it was truley broken whenever you bought it then you can report him to ebay and see what they say but thats about all you can do.

Reply:a. 1

b. 3

c. 4

d. 2
Reply:Friction is the force resisting the relative motion of two surfaces in contact or a surface in contact with a fluid (e.g. air on an aircraft or water in a pipe). It is not a fundamental force, as it is derived from electromagnetic forces between atoms and electrons, and so cannot be calculated from first principles, but instead must be found imperically. When contacting surfaces move relative to each other, the friction between the two objects converts kinetic energy into thermal energy, or heat. Friction between solid objects is often referred to as dry friction or sliding friction and between a solid and a gas or liquid as fluid friction. Both of these types of friction are called kinetic friction. Contrary to popular credibility, sliding friction is not caused by surface roughness, but by chemical bonding between the surfaces.[1] Surface roughness and contact area, however, do affect sliding friction for micro- and nano-scale objects where surface area forces dominate inertial forces.[2] Internal friction is the motion- resisting force between the surfaces of the particles making up the substance.

All season tire claim math problem?

The manufacturer of a particular all season tire claims that the tires last for 22,000 miles. After purchasing the tires you discover that yours did not last the full 22,000 miles. Suppose that a sample of 100 tires made by them lasted on average 21,819 miles with a standard deviation of 1,295 miles. Is there sufficent evidence to refute the manufactuers claim that the tires last 22,000?

Let a = 0.05. assume that the population standard deviation is o = 1300

a. define the null and the alternate hypothesis

b. find the appropriate rejection region

c. compute the test static

d. what is your conclusion? Explain

All season tire claim math problem?
a. null: u = 22,000 alt: u %26lt; 22000

b. since alpha = .05, and it is left-tailed test, the critical value is z = -1.645 and the rejection region is z %26lt; -1.645

c. test statistic: z = (21819-22000)/ (1295/sqrt(100))

z = -181/129.5 = -1.40 (You get -1.39 if use the pop st. dev of 1300)

d. Since -1.40 is not less than -1.645 it is not in the rejection region and therefore you do not reject the null hypothesis. There is not sufficient evidence to refute the manufacturer's claim.
