The force of kinetic friction is generally:
a)Equal to the force of static friction.
b) Smaller than the force of static friction.
c) Larger than the force of static friction.
MC:The force of kinetic friction is generally:?
I agree with cathaychris that it is harder to get something started (against static friction) from rest than to keep it moving against (kinetic) friction. But that means the force of kinetic friction is b) "Smaller than the force of static friction". Perhaps cathaychris unintentionally switched the terms in her answer?
Reply:It's generally larger than static friction, because it's harder to get something started from rest than to keep it moving against friction.
