Do I have to pay to ship bad product back to e-bay?

I got the c.d. player on Tuesdan and played c.d.s one night. The next day it made a few static sounds and the c.d. player wouldn't play. Shortly after, I attempted to play the radio and that would not come on either. The seller said I had to pay for all shipping and he would refund the purchase amount. His insinuation was that I broke it. He will use that as an excuse not to pay for shipping. What is the right thing to do?

Did the seller offer a warranty? If it worked when you got it and then it broke, why is it his problem?

You said ... "His insinuation was that I broke it." ... did the seller actually say something to make you feel that way? Because asking you to pay for return postage is not insinuating anything. Remember, you didn't buy something FROM eBay, you purchased it from an independent seller. And most sellers are just regular people working out of their homes. And most are not getting rich, they may actually be just breaking even. It's tough to turn a profit on eBay

It sounds like you have yourself a great seller there, I wouldn't offer you any kind of refund for an item that worked when you got it and broke afterwards, IMHO.
Reply:it is ebay and paypal policy not to require shipping to be refunded and for the buyer to pay shipping to have an item sent back for whatever reason. If you were to file a claim through paypal, they would tell you to send the item back, and the seller would give you a refund, less the shipping. It's just how things are, so the seller won't be short that amount of money.
Reply:It all depends on that seller, what did it say on the page that you purchased the item from ? If the sellers saying that you have to pay to return it ebay will not fight him and you will have to if you choose to send it back. If it was truley broken whenever you bought it then you can report him to ebay and see what they say but thats about all you can do.
